The Process

The artists created a two-color drawing of each image to be transferred to a lithographic plate. Each image is loosely based on the original painting on canvas by the same name.  Black is always one of the colors with the addition of a second color.  Once the lithographic two-color image is pulled on the Bristol Vellum paper and is acceptable to both artists, each will go to work on half of the image using acrylic paint thinned out to resemble watercolor.  This will give the image a soft, fluid quality.  They will consult with one another until they are both satisfied with their own and their partner’s work.  Each image thus created is therefore unique, like a drawing or painting.  The artists will then sign and number each image.

In 1992 the artists produced 150 lithographs but hand-painted only 50, signed and numbered from 1 to 50.  All 50 books were sold out in the intervening years.

The artists are hand-painting another set of 50 books, numbered from 51 to 100 will sign them and issue the 2023 edition. To find out what is available please contact us.
